Caption: HH 46/47 star birth, infrared image. The newly born star (centre) has a set of strong jets that are creating two large bubbles in the surrounding gas and dust (blue/green). The green areas are warm hydrogen gas, while the blue areas are where starlight is being scattered from dust. At the end of the jets are red spots where the jets are impacting the surrounding interstellar gas and dust. This star is 1140 light years from Earth, in the constellation of Vela. This image was obtained by the Spitzer Space Telescope (SST).
