Caption: Airy's lens diagrams. These diagrams were drawn by the English mathematician and astronomer George Biddell Airy (1801-1892). Various shapes and configurations of lenses, are labelled, and the passage of light rays shown. Some mathematical calculations are across bottom. Published in Transactions of the Cambridge Philosophical Society, Volume 3. This journal was published from 1822 to 1928.
