Caption: Ptolemy's Almagest, 1515 edition. The Almagest is a famous compendium authored by the 2nd century AD Greek astronomer Ptolemy. It summarised the learning of the Ancient Greeks, and was the basis of much of the astronomy and science of medieval Europe until the time of Copernicus (1543). This is the title page to an edition produced in Venice, Italy, in 1515. The text is in Latin. The first line is the title and author name. The rest of the text describes the book's contents, and gives the printing date and publisher details.
