Caption: Oesophageal narrowing. Endoscope view of a web or ring (pink), partially obstructing the oesophagus. Oesophageal webs are a 2-3 millimetre extension of normal oesophageal tissue, composed of mucosa and submucosa. Rings are 3-5 millimetres thick and consist of mucosa, submucosa and muscle. Webs and rings can be asymptomatic or may cause dysphagia (difficulty swallowing) or symptoms suggestive of heartburn or indigestion.
