Underproduction of dopamine by certain nerve pathways results in the movement disorder known as Parkinson's disease. Overproduction of dopamine by other pathways may contribute to psychotic illnesses, notably schizophrenia. Largactil (chlorpromazine), a drug used to control schizophrenia, acts by blocking dopamine-receptor sites in the brain.
