Caption: Marvin L. Hackert (born 1944), US biochemist. Hackert's work has been on structural molecular biology, using crystallographic techniques to determine the structure of proteins and enzymes. In particular, he has worked on PLP (pyridoxal-phosphate) dependent enzymes. He has worked at the University of Texas at Austin, Texas, USA, since 1974. From 1993 onwards, he has been the university's William Shive Centennial Professor of Biochemistry, also serving as Chair of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry (1995-2000), and Director of the Biochemical Institute (1997 onwards). In 2008, he became President of the ACA (American Crystallographic Association).
