Caption: Benign colonic growth. Endoscopic view of a benign (non-cancerous) tubular adenoma (centre right) in the ascending part of the colon (colon ascendens). Adenomas are growths that arise from glands. In the colon these are an important early warning of potential cancer development. If the adenoma remains benign then it may be left in place unless it causes discomfort through obstructing the colon.
