Caption: Oesophageus ulcers. Endoscopic view of ulcers (upper and lower left) in the oesophagus (gullet), caused by chronic acid reflux. Chronic acid reflux is when stomach acids escape from the stomach into the oesophagus. The acid damages the cells lining the wall of the oesophagus, causing ulceration. Treatment for acid reflux is with drugs to reduce stomach acid production.
