Caption: Growing lettuce in Space. NASA astronaut Kjell Lindgren harvests space-grown Red Romaine lettuce on the International Space Station, July 2015. The plant growth experiment, called Veg-01, used rooting pillows which contained the seeds. These were placed in a collapsible Veggie unit, featuring red, blue and green LED lights for plant growth and observation. The plant pillows were activated on July 8, 2015, and grew for 33 days before being harvested for eating and for analysis.
