Caption: Limestone pinnacles at dusk. In arid regions, wind erosion can create upright columns of sedimentary rock such as limestone. Millions of years of erosion by wind-borne sand wears down soft rock, leaving behind cores of harder rock. Further erosion then rounds off the features. Photographed in Pinnacles Desert, Nambung National Park, Western Australia.
