Caption: Natural gas powered bus. Natural gas (methane) can be used as a fuel in order to reduce airborne pollution. Methane is a simple hydrocarbon that burns much more efficiently than petrol or diesel. Vehicles that use methane can reduce emissions of carbon monoxide and unburnt hydrocarbons by up to 85 to 90 percent. They also reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 32 percent. Emissions of sulphur and nitrogen oxides, a major cause of acid rain, are also reduced. Photographed in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
