Caption: Penis disorders, historical medical illustration. Figs 1 and 2 are cases of genital warts, Figs 3 and 5 are syphilis, and Fig 4 is psoriasis, an autoimmune disease. Syphilis and genital warts are sexually transmitted infections. Syphilis is caused by the bacterium Treponema pallidum and genital warts are caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV). From Atlas of Venereal and Skin Diseases by Prince Albert Morrow, published in 1889.
