Caption: Car windscreen manufacturing. Factory workers handling windscreens during the manufacturing process. Here, the windscreens are on a conveyor belt, and have just been treated with a laminating material called polyvinyl butyral (PVB). This is a thin plastic layer that is sandwiched between two layers of glass. The lamination layer is a safety feature, ensuring that if the windscreen is broken, the glass does not shatter, but is held in place by the plastic layer.
