Caption: Injured Hermann's tortoise (Testudo hermanni). Animal rescue centre worker caring for an injured Hermann's tortoise. This tortoise is found in southern Europe. It is threatened in its natural scrub habitat by urbanisation and forest fires. Injuries such as this can be caused by dog bites, accidents with cars, or lawnmower injuries. The wound has been cleaned and a protective cover is being fixed in place with a resin. Photographed in "Le Village Des Tortues", a tortoise rescue centre in southern France.
