Caption: Hermann's tortoise (Testudo hermanni) skeleton. The head is at left, and the carapace has been cut away to show the internal structure. This tortoise is found in southern Europe. It feeds mainly on fruits and vegetables, and sometimes insects and snails as well. It can live for around 80 years. This tortoise is threatened in its natural scrub habitat by urbanisation and forest fires. Photographed in "Le Village Des Tortues", a tortoise rescue centre in southern France.
