Caption: Spodumene, a lithium silicate mineral, occurs in crystals (sometimes very large) of varying colors. The chief localities are Brazil and Afghanistan. The most familiar color is the pink variety known as kunzite, but green, blue-green and yellow stones have also found their way into the marketplace. This enormous kunzite gem from Afghanistan weighs 588.52 carats.
