Caption: Jade is a family consisting of two distinct minerals, jadeite and nephrite. Jadeite is far more valuable than nephrite, and its colors are generally brighter and more vivid. The finest jadeite occurs in Myanmar (Burma), where mauve (lavender) and green hues are highly prized. Jade is tough and can be fashioned into intricate carvings, such as this 10-inch statue.
