Caption: Natrolite belongs to a family of minerals called zeolites. Typical occurrences are in cavities in dark igneous rocks, such as basalt, where the mineral occurs in sprays of tiny crystals. The ones from Bound Brook, New Jersey, are unique in terms of size and transparency. Cut stones up to around 10 carats have been cut from such crystals. The one shown weighs about 5 carats.
