Caption: Purpurite, named for its remarkable purple hue, is iron manganese phosphate. The purple color is attributed to the presence of manganese. This is an uncommon mineral, known from only a handful of localities. Some of the best specimens have been found at Usakos, in Namibia (South West Africa).
