Caption: MODEL RELEASED. Nerve stimulation. Close-up of a nerve stimulator (upper right) being used to aid the blockade of the brachial plexus, prior to a shoulder arthroscopy being performed. The brachial plexus is a bundle of nerves running from the spinal cord, down the side of the neck and into the arm. A nerve block is used to temporarily knock out the nerves to prevent pain during certain procedures. A nerve stimulator can be used to make the nerves twitch so that they are more easily located, helping the nerve block to be administered accurately.
