Caption: Kansai-Kan National Diet Library in Takenaka, Kyoto, Japan. This building, which opened in 2002, is the largest electronic library in Asia and holds at least six million books and periodicals. These sloping roofs are being planted with grasses in order to provide improved cooling for the library's reading rooms and auditorium, which are located in the basement below them. The library also has a roof garden, which is one of the few green spaces in Kyoto.
