Caption: Computer rendered illustration of two oil degrading bacteria: Pseudomonas sp. and Bacillus sp. An infection of Pseudomonas sp. bacteria in the lungs can cause a range of conditions, from mild bronchitis to severe pneumonia. Pseudomonas flourish in soil, decaying vegetable matter, vegetation and water. These bacteria are not found in humans unless the bodies immune response has been suppressed by illness or drugs. Bacillus sp. bacteria include a variety of rod-shaped, spore-forming, aerobic bacteria. Illustration based on a scanning electron micrograph with a magnification of x7000.
