Caption: Argan oil production. Berber woman using a traditional grinding device to obtain an oil-rich paste from the roasted seeds of the argan tree (Argania spinosa). The seeds are obtained by cracking open the nuts (kernels in basket at lower left). After roasting and grinding, the paste is squeezed to extract the oil. Argan oil is used for its nutritional, cosmetic and medicinal properties. The argan tree is endemic to south-western Morocco, and the oil is produced by traditional means by the Berber population in the region. Photographed in Morocco.
