Zonula adherens (adherens junction), also known as an intermediate junction or belt desmosome, are protein complexes that occur at cell to cell junctions in epithelial and endothelial tissues. An adherens junction is a cell junction whose cytoplasmic face is linked to the actin cytoskeleton. These junctions can appear as bands encircling the cell (zonula adherens) or as spots of attachment to the extracellular matrix (adhesion plaques). Magnification: x13,765 when shortest axis printed at 25 millimetres.
