Caption: Diagram of the ALICE particle detector. ALICE is one of the experiments being proposed for the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) accelerator at CERN, the European particle physics lab near Geneva. ALICE was designed primarily to study collisions between heavy atomic nuclei (ions) such as lead. The main features of ALICE are; inner vertex detectors to study short-lived particles, a time projection chamber to study longer-lived particles, Electro-Magnetic (EM) calorimeters to measure electrons and photons, and hadronic calorimeters to absorb high-energy particles and particle jets.
