Caption: Honda Dream II, solar car, winner of the 1996 World Solar Challenge. Every three years, solar cars compete in this challenge to cross Australia from north to south. The route, from Darwin to Adelaide along the Stuart Highway, covers 3000 kilometres. Honda Dream II won the 1996 competition in 33 hours and 32 minutes, at an average speed of 89.76 kilometres per hour. Solar cars are designed to run on electricity produced by solar panels powered by sunlight.
