Caption: Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Halophilic archaea (prokaryote). This pleomorphic rod, extremophile was found growing at high salinity (2.5 times normal sea water concentration). It is an unknown genus likely, Halomicrobium or Halobacterium, from a group of bacteria, formerly called Archaebacteria or Archaeobacteria; now called Archaea. Magnification: x2,000 when shortest axis printed at 25 millimetres.
