Caption: Evapotranspiration measurements. Meteorologist inspecting an evapotranspiration measuring device at a water flow measuring station. This device measures the rate of water loss by evaporation from plants and the surrounding environment. This water flow measuring station is in Nalohou, Benin. The data obtained is being used in the AMMA (African Monsoon Multidisciplinary Analysis) project to study the African monsoon season. The monsoon is a seasonal period of heavy rainfall following prevailing winds. In western Africa, it arrives in June.
