Caption: Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Hyphae and conidia (spores) of the keratinophilic fungus Microascus manginii . The conidia are asexual reproductive spores that bud from the end of branching hyphae (that make up the body of the fungus). Microascus anamorphs belong to the genera Scopulariopsus, Scedosporum and Graphium . Microascus spp. are common environmental fungi and can be found on soil, plant material, feathers, insects, house dust and on a wide variety of materials including old carpets and water damaged wallpaper and plaster board. Microascus spp. have been show to cause human infections. Magnification: x300 when shortest axis printed at 25 millimetres.
