Caption: Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Green Darner dragonfly upper wing surface (Anax junius). Anax junius, known as the green darner or common green darner, is a dragonfly in the family Aeshnidae. Anax junius is one of the most common and abundant dragonfly species in North America; south to Panama. It is well known for its annual migration from the northern United States, south into Texas and Mexico. It also occurs in the Caribbean, Tahiti, and Asia; from Japan to mainland China. Their habitat is usually near ponds and streams throughout most of North America. Adult green darners prey on midges, moths, mosquitoes and flies.
