Caption: Forefoot of a common shrew (Sorex araneus), scanning electron micrograph (SEM). This shrew is a small mammal that is commonly found in woodlands, grasslands and hedgelands of Britain, Scandinavia and Eastern Europe. Although the external appearances of shrews are similar to mice, they are not rodents but members of the family Soricidae. They also have five clawed toes on their feet (one not seen) unlike rodents which only have four. Magnification: x10 when printed 10 centimetres wide.
