Caption

Microscopy of the tentacles of a coral (Zoanthidae) contracting. Zoanthids are colonial corals with large and colourful individual polyps. Their tissues contain symbiotic zooxanthellae, photosynthetic algae that produce food for the coral from sunlight. The corals also capture plankton from the water. Their bright colours and ease of care has made them popular in the aquarium trade. Filmed at a magnification of x60 on the sensor, and sped up three times.
