Caption: Cueva Fantasma fossil site. This site, discovered in 2016, is part of the Atapuerca complex. This complex consists of several hominin fossil sites located on the south-western edge of the Sierra de Atapuerca mountains in northern Spain. The Atapuerca sites have been studied extensively, leading to a massive advancement in the understanding of human evolution. In 2000, Sierra de Atapuerca was made a world heritage site by UNESCO. Photographed in July 2016.
