Caption: MODEL RELEASED. Xanthelasma. Fatty growth, called a xanthoma, seen on the upper eyelid of a 70-year-old woman. Xanthelasma, the localised occurence of xanthoma on the eyelids, is common in elderly people. Severe cases can indicate a fat metabolism disorder and the presence of xanthomata is usually accompanied by a raised blood cholesterol level. High cholesterol is a value of over 5 millimoles per litre. This patient had a blood cholesterol reading of 7.8 millimoles per litre.
