Caption: Army ant soldier guarding workers as they carry eggs. These are Eciton hamatum army ants. The soldiers are larger than the worker ants, and have huge and powerful jaws. Army ants do not have a permanent nest like most ants, instead living in temporary bivouacs and forming massive raiding parties that scour the forest for food. Filmed in the Ecaudorian Amazon.
