Caption: MODEL RELEASED. Skin cancer wound on a patient's ear. Wound resulting from an excised squamous cell carcinoma, a type of cancer that arises in specialised epithelial cells that line the surface of the skin. This is the second most common type of skin cancer. It usually arises from pre-cancerous lesions, known as solar keratoses, caused by sun damage. Treatment is with surgical removal of the tumour, combined with radiation therapy and chemotherapy. Here, a skin graft has been applied to cover the open wound from the surgery.
