Caption: Hypersensitivity vasculitis. Light micrograph of a section through the dermis of the skin showing hypersensitivity vasculitis (inflammation of the blood vessels). Here capillaries (white gaps in pink stained tissue) have been infiltrated by inflammatory immune cells as a result of an allergic reaction. Hypersensitivity vasculitis, also known as leukocytoclastic vasculitis, may be caused by a bacterial or viral infection, or be a reaction to a drug. Treatment is of the underlying cause. Magnification: x60 when printed at 10 centimetres wide.
