Caption: MODEL RELEASED. Foetal aural memory research. Newborn baby being tested for her memory of her mother's voice and sounds. Speakers are playing back sounds, and a monitoring device (centre) is recording the rate of the sleeping baby's heartbeat while she listens to the sounds. A sound level measuring device (right) monitors the baby's response. It is thought that a newborn baby can recognise its mother's voice, which it heard while developing as a foetus in the uterus.
