Caption: Three-horned male calf, with a farmer in the background. It is thought that the central horn and lump on this cow's forehead could be the skull of a vestigial twin. Also known as a parasitic twin, this occurs when twin embryos do not fully separate and one twin becomes dominant. When the parasitic twin is malformed and incomplete, the result can be extra limbs and body parts. This is the Parthenaise breed of the domestic cow (Bos taurus). Photographed in France.
