Caption: Allergic conjunctivitis in an 8-year-old boy's right eye (left). Conjunctivitis is an inflammation of the conjunctiva of the eye. The conjunctiva is the membrane that lines the inside of the eyelids and covers the white of the eye. This inflammation was caused by an allergic reaction of the conjunctiva to a foreign substance. Allergic conjunctivitis is common and can be triggered by make-up, contact lens solution or pollen, among other things. Treatment includes avoidance of the cause, and antihistamine eyedrops to relieve the symptoms.
