Caption: Treatment of spinal displacement. Frontal (left) and profile (right) X-rays of the lower spine of a 41-year-old woman with severe retrolisthesis. In the sideways view, the front of the body is at right. This condition involves displacement of the vertebrae (the bones of the spine), in this case in the lumbar-sacral region. The condition has been treated by inserting metal plates and pins to hold the realigned vertebrae in place. This stabilising of the spine is known as arthrodesis.
