Caption: Duodenal ulcer, coloured barium X-ray. This is a frontal view of the stomach (right) and the duodenum (centre, start of the small intestine). The passage of the barium (orange and black) is being impeded at centre by the damage caused by the ulcer in the duodenum. Ulcers in the stomach or intestines are typically caused by infection with Helicobacter pylori bacteria. Duodenal ulcers may cause abdominal pain, blood in the faeces and weight loss.
