Caption: Charles Christofle (1805-1863). 1867 illustration of the French jeweller and goldsmith Charles Christofle. Christofle founded Maison Christofle in 1845, which became silversmith to Napoleon III and one of the major silversmiths in 19th Century France. The Christofle company continues to this day (as of 2017) as a manufacturer of fine silver flatware and home accessories.
