Caption: Jules Petiet (1813-1871). 1867 illustration of the French mechanical engineer Jules Petiet. Petiet worked on the early development of the French railway network and was appointed chief engineer of the 'Chemins de Fer du Nord' in 1845. In 1868 he became head of the prestigious engineering school Ecole Centrale Paris.
