Caption: Intracranial aneurysm treatment. Angiogram (blood vessel X-ray) of the result of the treatment of aneurysms in a 51-year-old man. An aneurysm is a weakening and swelling of a blood vessel, in this case in the left and right internal carotid-ophthalmic arteries. This X-ray was obtained a year after the treatment, which involved the implantation of coils in the aneurysm. This technique is called endovascular coiling and endovascular embolization. This has resulted in a completely excluded aneurysm at left (dark patch), where the insertion of metal coils has resulted in the clotting of the blood in the aneurysm and the filling of the aneurysm. The same has occurred at right as well (dark patches at centre).
