Caption: Tuberculosis infection, light micrograph. This is a Langhans cell an agglomeration of macrophage white blood cells that forms in response to an infection, in this case tuberculosis (TB). TB is a disease caused by infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria. The bacteria are usually inhaled in water droplets, and can progress from the lungs to the lymphatic system. This sample was obtained during a biopsy of a tuberculous follicle.
