Caption: Normal leg arteries. Coloured frontal angiograms (X-ray) of normal arteries of the human legs. The kidneys (red) and renal arteries are seen at top. Running down from top is the descending aorta, which is seen splitting into two external iliac arteries at the groin. These then branch into the femoral arteries of the thighs, the popliteal arteries of the knees, and the tibial and fibular arteries of the lower legs. Angiography uses an injected contrast material to show blood vessels on a X-ray. The bones of the pelvis and legs are also seen in the image at right.
