Caption: Enlarged heart. Combined frontal computed tomography (CT) and positron emission tomography (PET) scans of a heart (right) with dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). This is a condition in which the muscle tissue in the heart becomes weakened and enlarged, rendering it unable to pump blood efficiently. The PET scan used here is 2-18F-fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose (FDG) positron emission tomography.
