Caption: Anthrax antibiotic drug molecule, computer model. This is ciprofloxacin (C17. H18. F.N3.O3), the main part of Cipro (ciprofloxacin hydrochloride), an antibiotic drug used to treat an infection by the Bacillus anthracis bacterium. The molecule's atoms (spheres) have been colour-coded: carbon (grey, large), hydrogen (grey, small), fluorine (green), nitrogen (blue) and oxygen (red). Anthrax, found in the soil and on livestock, can cause infections in humans of the skin, intestines and lungs. The lung infection is usually fatal, unless treatment is given before symptoms appear. The other forms of infection are more easily treated. Anthrax is a weapon in biological warfare and terrorism.
