Caption: Enlarged heart. Three sequences of combined computed tomography (CT) and positron emission tomography (PET) scans of a heart with dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). The upper, middle and lower sequences are frontal, sagittal and axial views respectively. The order of each sequence runs across from upper left to lower right. DCM is a condition in which the muscle tissue in the heart becomes weakened and enlarged, rendering it unable to pump blood efficiently. The PET scan used here is 2-18F-fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose (FDG) positron emission tomography.
